The tour takes us from the Al Fahidi Courtyard Houses to the Dubai Museum. We pass by the Ruler’s Court and experience the Hindi Lane (Textile Market). The Textile Souk and Meena Bazaar are on our way to the Creek Waterfront, where a water taxi (Abra) will take us to Deira. Itinerary of the Guided Walking Tour of Old Dubai
You will be picked up from your hotel or residence in an air-conditioned vehicle and taken to Al Fahidi. Our German-speaking tour guide will then accompany you on the walking tour of Old Dubai, sharing a wealth of history with you. This tour brings you closer to Dubai’s heritage and provides a glimpse into the history of this desert trading city.
Al Fahidi was built in the 19th century and strategically located near Dubai Creek, protected by tall watchtowers. The houses, built in traditional Emirati architecture, have been lovingly restored and preserved. Today, you’ll find many small cafes, art galleries, street art, and boutique hotels in this area. On our tour, we also see the old fortifications.
Hindi Lane is located behind the Grand Mosque. A Hindu temple, small shops with statues, pictures, and more remind you of India.
On our walking tour of Old Dubai, we proceed from here to the Textile Souk and Meena Bazaar. In addition to the many small shops with all kinds of textiles and other traditional items, you’ll be impressed by the exceptional ceiling architecture. The colorful shops and the old-town charm here also offer a glimpse of the past. Meena Bazaar gives an impression of the influence India had on old Dubai.
A water taxi (Abra) will then take us from the Creek Waterfront to Deira for the Spice and Gold Souks. During the ride, you can catch a glimpse of the Heritage Village and the House of Sheikh Saeed. Spices in jute bags spread their scents, shishas stand nearby waiting for new owners. The shops in the Gold Souk sparkle with all facets of gold, pearls, and gemstones. In the souks, you can experience traditional trading activities that continue to this day.
This is where our walking tour of Old Dubai ends.
