While Dubai Adventure Activities may be known for its majestic skyscrapers and huge shopping malls, the desert that lies beyond the city is just as exciting and authentic. My desert safari day began with some exhilarating dune bashing. Our driver was exceptionally skilled, and we navigated the towering sand dunes at hair-raising speed. The 4×4 felt little more than a roller coaster, lurching and dipping with gasps and cheers from everyone. Following this very high-speed adventurous ride in gently sloping sand dunes, we tried sandboarding! Essentially, we strapped our feet to a board and sped down a slope. It was such a fun way to get an idea of the enormity of the desert underneath us.

As the sun fell beneath the horizon and painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, we boarded camels for a gentle ride. The ride on camels was nothing short of unique, giving us a taste of traditional desert transportation and relaxation after the earlier excitement. Our evening came to a close with a traditional Bedouin dinner underneath the stars. The air filled with the mouth-watering smells from the grill as we consumed great local food, enjoyed belly dance entertainment, and were ultimately enchanted by the desert night. This was a brilliant combination of experience, exploration, and feeling as if we left with something more..

Sky-High Thrills: Skydiving Over Palm Jumeirah

For the ultimate adrenaline rush, nothing compares to skydiving over Palm Jumeirah. The anticipation alone was palpable as I geared up, heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. Strapped securely to my instructor, we ascended to an incredible altitude, the city shrinking beneath us. The moment we leaped from the plane was a blur of pure exhilaration. For a few breathtaking seconds, it felt like freefalling through the sky, the wind rushing past, and my senses on overdrive.

After which point the parachute opened and things changed dramatically. The view at such an altitude was breathtaking. I was above the iconic Palm Jumeirah hardly believing the stunning views that were on display. Below, the masterpiece of human ingenuity created on the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf was flawless. I could see the Atlantis, The Palm resorts and the crescent around the “fronds”. At that moment it was surreal and awe inspiring to see Dubai from such a height, unlike anything I had experienced before, a once-in-a-lifetime occasion that was etched in my memory.

Dubai’s Aquatic Playground: Fun in the Sun

In addition to its desert and buildings, Dubai Adventure Activities is home to an incredible range of thrilling water sports. The same warm, clear waters that are great for swimming are well suited for lots of water-based activities. I started out with jet skiing and felt like a kid again, buzzing around the waves with a huge 7-star hotel and the city’s towering skyline in the background! The refreshing spray and gripping speed of the jet ski was an invigorating way to cool down while taking in the views of the sparkling water and the shoreline. After jet skiing, I tried windsurfing, which is a sport that is fun, but certainly takes time and practice to be good at. It is a sport that is a blend of surfing and sailing. Harnessing the wind while gliding on the water made me feel excited by the control of the wind and exhilarated by the experience of freedom on the water.

If you’re after a more laid back and equal fun experience, kayaking is a wonderful opportunity to paddle out into calmer waters and see Dubai’s coastline from an entirely different angle. For those who love exploring underwater, snorkeling and diving are also recommended. While Dubai doesn’t have a host of natural coral reefs like many classic dive destinations, locations such as Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis, The Palm provide amazing opportunities to get up close with marine life in a managed environment, whether you want to snorkel or even dive in lagoons filled with sharks, rays, and brightly colored fish! There is definitely something for every water sports enthusiast in Dubai!
